Northampton Lake is a public lake in the suburb of Kettering in Prince George’s County, Maryland. This lake is situated in the perfect spot for those looking for a respite from their fast-paced life. Washington D.C., the capital of the U.S. and a major cultural center, is only 20 miles away. Baltimore, another major city, is less than an hour away and makes for an excellent day trip.

This county’s name is quite the curiosity, as it was named after Prince George of Denmark. He was a consort of Queen Anne, and locals have come to refer to the area as “PG County.”

While there are a few smaller airfields nearby, the closest major airport is Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, less than 40 miles away. Medical assistance can be received at Kaiser Permanente Largo Medical Center, a brief two miles away.

Grocery and snack needs can be easily satisfied at Target, typically within ten minutes of driving distance. Fantastic restaurants surround the lake, like Blue Waters Caribbean & Seafood Grill, First Watch, and Topolino An Italian Bistro.

On the Water

This humble 23-acre lake is ideal for fishermen. There is no public boat ramp available, so this lake is best suited for canoes and kayaks. On the eastern shore of the lake, residents will find a public fishing pier.

Whether on a canoe or standing on the shore, anglers will find a myriad of different fish, such as largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, perch, or sunfish. Northampton Lake is not a location suitable for motorized craft or watersports.
